Scrypt Price methodology
Scrypt Price computes the prices, changes and market caps shown across Scrypt Wallet, the Scrypt mining calculator and this site. This page explains exactly how, so the numbers can be checked and cited. Last reviewed 2026-10-10.
1. Sources
Prices come only from primary markets, never from another price aggregator. Centralised exchanges are queried in bulk; Solana tokens are priced from on-chain markets by token mint address.
Some large exchanges (for example Binance, Bybit and KuCoin) are not included because they block our hosting region. Each asset has a hand-maintained list of venues, because the same ticker can mean different assets on different exchanges.
2. Aggregation
- Weights. Each venue's weight is the square root of its reported 24-hour volume in USD (with a small floor), which stops one very large venue from dominating without ignoring size. On-chain markets are additionally capped at five times their pool liquidity to blunt wash trading.
- Weighted median. The price is the weighted median of the venue quotes.
- Outlier rejection. A quote is rejected if it differs from the median by more than a tolerance of three times the relative median absolute deviation, clamped between 3 percent and 10 percent. With only two quotes, a disagreement above 15 percent is flagged as a dispute and confidence is lowered: if the two venues are comparable in size (weights within a factor of two) and disagree by no more than 40 percent, neither can be called right, so their weighted mean is used and the price is labelled indicative; otherwise the larger venue is kept.
- Jump guard. If a single-source asset jumps by more than 35 percent, the new price must be confirmed by three consecutive updates before it is shown.
- Stale serving. If fresh quotes disappear, the last good price is served, marked stale, for up to 24 hours.
3. Confidence levels
- High: three or more independent sources within 2 percent of each other.
- Medium: two or more sources within 5 percent, with no dispute.
- Low: a single source, a fallback source, or wider disagreement.
- Stale: the last good price, no longer fresh.
4. Update frequency, history and 24-hour change
Exchange prices refresh every 60 seconds and priced Solana and Ethereum tokens every 90 seconds. Charts use five-minute points for the last two days and hourly points for about 95 days. Daily open, high, low, close and volume are kept for every priced asset for as far back as the exchanges' own records go, and are the source of the historical-data pages, the CSV downloads and the all-time highs and lows. The 24-hour change is a true rolling 24 hours from prices Scrypt Price recorded itself.
5. Market cap, supply and thin markets
Market cap is circulating supply multiplied by the aggregated price, and it is shown only when the circulating supply can be verified from the chain. The sources, in order: a published manual figure with a named source; the emission schedule and block height for Bitcoin, Litecoin, Dogecoin and Bitcoin Cash; Scrypt Explorer, which reads our own full nodes (the sum of unspent outputs) and Solana's own supply call; and each chain's public supply endpoint (for example Cardano, Hedera, Tezos, MultiversX, Stellar, Kaspa, Ethereum, Tether's own transparency report) or an ERC-20 or Solana token contract's total supply minus the tokens in burn addresses. Every one of those sources was audited against an independent reference before it was allowed to publish: a source whose figure disagreed by more than 5 percent publishes nothing, and one is only allowed to state a circulating supply when it matched independent circulating supply within 3 percent. Where only the total supply is verifiable, the page shows fully diluted valuation instead of market cap. Assets trading less than about $1,000 a day are treated as thin markets, and their multi-day performance and highs and lows are hidden because a single trade can move them.
6. Fiat conversion
Prices are computed in US dollars. Other currencies use Scrypt Price's own currency table (open.er-api.com daily rates, with the European Central Bank's reference rates filling any gap), the same table the wallet's currency picker uses. Converter pages state the source and the date of the rate they used, and are also published in Spanish, Portuguese, German and French for the currencies those readers use.
7. Limitations
Prices are an aggregate and will differ slightly from any single exchange. Fees, slippage and withdrawal limits apply when you trade. Data can be delayed or temporarily unavailable. Nothing here is financial advice.
Frequently asked questions
Where does Scrypt Price get its prices?
From the order books and trade data of independent exchanges (OKX, Gate, MEXC, Ourbit, Bitget, HTX, Bitrue, Binance.US, Kraken, Coinbase, NonKYC, CoinEx) and, for Solana tokens, on-chain markets (Jupiter, DexScreener, GeckoTerminal). It does not use CoinGecko, CoinMarketCap or other aggregators.
How is the price calculated?
As a weighted median of the venue prices. Each venue's weight is the square root of its 24-hour volume, on-chain markets are capped by their pool liquidity, and venues that disagree with the median by more than a tolerance of 3 to 10 percent are rejected as outliers.
What do the confidence levels mean?
High means at least three independent sources agree within 2 percent. Medium means at least two sources agree within 5 percent. Low means fewer sources or wider disagreement. Stale means the last good price is being served because fresh quotes are temporarily unavailable.
How often is the data updated?
Exchange prices are refreshed every 60 seconds and priced Solana tokens every 90 seconds. Pages show the time of the last refresh.
How is market cap calculated?
Market cap is circulating supply multiplied by the aggregated price, and it is published only when the circulating supply can be verified from the chain itself: our own full nodes, a coin's emission schedule and block height (Bitcoin, Litecoin, Dogecoin, Bitcoin Cash), the chain's own supply endpoint, or a token contract that was checked to be fully circulating. Where circulating supply is a project-reported judgement that the chain does not state (locked, vesting or treasury tokens), no market cap is shown.
Why do some coins show a fully diluted valuation instead of a market cap?
Fully diluted valuation is price multiplied by the maximum supply, or by the total supply that exists on-chain when there is no hard cap. It is shown when the total supply is verifiable but the circulating supply is not, for example when part of the supply is locked or held by the project. It is always labelled as fully diluted valuation and never presented as market cap.
How is the 24-hour change calculated?
As a true rolling 24 hours from the prices Scrypt Price recorded itself: the current price against the recorded price 24 hours earlier. Exchanges each report their own 24-hour window (some use the UTC day), so those figures are used only when Scrypt Price does not yet hold 24 hours of history for an asset.
What is an indicative price?
A price that rests on one thin market, or on markets that disagree, and so has low confidence. It is still shown, with an Indicative tag, because it is the best price available, but it can move sharply and may differ between exchanges.
Where do the historical data, highs and lows come from?
From the daily candles of the same exchanges and on-chain markets used for the live price. For each day the close is the volume-weighted consensus, open, high and low are medians across the venues that agree, and volume is their combined traded value in US dollars. A day backed by a single venue shows open and close only, because one exchange's wick on a thin book is not a market high or low. All-time highs and lows are the extremes of that history, which starts when the first venue listed the coin.
Is this financial advice?
No. Scrypt Price is an information service. Prices differ between venues, fees and slippage apply, and thinly traded assets can move sharply.
