Frequently asked questions

What does the API provide?

Scrypt Price provides crypto prices, market data, charts, categories and search as read-only JSON endpoints. Fields we cannot verify are null rather than guessed.

Where does the data come from?

From independent exchanges and on-chain markets, aggregated by Scrypt Price. See the methodology page for how prices, confidence and market caps are computed.

Why does a coin have no market cap?

A market cap is published only when its circulating supply can be verified independently. Otherwise the field is null and, where a maximum supply is known, a fully diluted valuation is given. The /global totals count only coins with a verified market cap and say how many.

How do I get a key, and how long does approval take?

Sign in to Scrypt Wallet, open Profile, then Developer API keys, and describe what you will use it for. The key is shown once and does nothing until an administrator approves it. If it is rejected the reason is shown on the same page.

What happens when I go over my limit?

You get HTTP 429 with a Retry-After header. Responses to keyed requests carry X-RateLimit-Limit (requests per minute) and X-API-Plan. A key that is unknown, still pending, rejected or revoked gets HTTP 401.

Do I need to credit Scrypt Price?

A link back to price.scryptwallet.io is appreciated and expected for public products built on the free tiers.

Prices are an aggregate and differ slightly from any single exchange. Nothing here is financial advice.
